Base Layer Information

Base layers: keep ypu dry, warm or cool depending on the garment and assist in muscle recovery and performance!

Designed to be worn next to the skin, hence the name ‘base layer’, base layers have different properties and will;

  • Allow your skin to breathe
  • Keep you dry by wicking away (taking away) moisture from your skin
  • Improve your comfort level when active
  • Keep you warm when it is cool
  • Keep you cool when your hot
  • Improve muscle recovery and performance (in some products)

‘Base Layer’ is a generic term for all garments worn next to the skin.  It includes, thermals and compression garments.

How these base layers work!

There is no point having a wet sweaty cotton t-shirt next to your skin with a water proof breathable jacket on. Why? Because when you slow down and sweat less and your body cools you will get cold because the cotton t-shirt is damp with sweat. You need your base layer to stay dry to keep you warm when you cool down, which means it must breathe with you, just like your outer layer and in fact all layers need to breathe.

If you want to improve your enjoyment and sport performance - don't forget this important item of clothing.
